Who is Shevonne Travers?

Shevonne Travers has designed, established and managed a variety of health promotion/disease prevention and family focused programs over the past 38 years.  She received her B.S. in Recreation and her M.A in Counseling from West Virginia University, home of the Mountaineers.  For the past seven years, Shevonne has served as a health promotion specialist for Vermont school employees with the Vermont School Boards Insurance Trust.  Shevonne is primarily focused on creating healthier workplace environments to support employees making and sustaining healthy behavior changes. Shevonne’s team describes her as “making the fun happen!  Nobody puts together a better program than Shevonne, opening minds and ideas for healthy change.”

Previous to her work at VSBIT, Shevonne oversaw VT’s Agency of Education Safe and Healthy Schools Division, directed two parent-child centers, served as the assistant director of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe’s health center and provided services to families as a mental health clinician.  Shevonne has designed and facilitated a variety of health promotion workshops, parenting courses and professional development trainings for school faculty and community organizations.    She is certified as a Dialogue Education Instructor and as a Wellness Culture Coach. In the past she has served as an adjunct graduate level instructor for the VT Higher Education Collaborative.  Shevonne is a member of the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and the chair of her town’s recreation committee.

Shevonne loves being active in the outdoors throughout the year.  She has completed numerous marathons, cycled through most of Vermont and Iowa and has spent hours in frigid arenas attempting to accomplish ice dancing routines. She is presently challenging herself to become a more astute tap dancer and playwright.
